Project Overview
The City of Miami Beach undertook a park walkway expansion project that required strict adherence to environmental compliance. With work occurring directly adjacent to sensitive waterways, there was a high risk of sediment escaping construction zones and harming surrounding ecosystems.
The project needed a DOT-compliant solution to contain sediment, minimize turbidity, and maintain safe water quality throughout construction.
Objective
Control sediment during park walkway expansion while ensuring full DOT compliance and protecting the surrounding environment.
GEI Works Solution
GEI Works manufactured and supplied a Type 1 DOT Turbidity Curtain, deployed around the designated construction zones. To provide an extra layer of protection, a dual-curtain system was used, enhancing containment and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Features:
-
DOT-Compliant Design – engineered for construction projects requiring regulatory oversight
-
Dual Curtain Deployment – provided added sediment containment
-
Durability & Flexibility – designed for ease of installation in sensitive waterways

Project Highlights
-
Direct Collaboration
GEI Works worked closely with the City of Miami Beach to design the most effective solution for the project’s unique needs. -
Enhanced Protection
Dual curtain layers minimized turbidity and contained sediment within the construction area. -
Environmental Stewardship
The park’s sensitive waterways and ecosystem were successfully protected from additional impacts throughout construction.
Outcome
The Type 1 DOT Turbidity Curtain system allowed the City of Miami Beach to complete the walkway expansion while meeting DOT requirements and protecting the environment. The project demonstrated the effectiveness of Best Management Practices (BMPs) in balancing construction progress with ecological responsibility.
This case underscores GEI Works’ expertise in providing customized containment solutions for municipal projects, ensuring compliance, protection, and long-term community benefit.
