Project Overview

A municipality near Seattle was facing ongoing debris buildup in a central pond located within the town square and park. The pond is a focal point for both residents and visitors, but frequent debris accumulation from adjacent waterways required constant cleanout and maintenance.

The city needed a preventative solution that would divert debris before it entered the pond, ensuring a clean, welcoming community space without creating a visual distraction in the park.

Objective

Prevent floating debris from entering the pond through the connected canal while preserving the aesthetic appeal of the community’s centerpiece water feature.

GEI Works Solution

GEI Works supplied a belted PermBoom, strategically designed to span the entrance of the canal. The boom was manufactured in a low-visibility color to blend into the surroundings and minimize visual impact on the park and neighboring properties.

Key Features:

  • Discreet Aesthetic – low-profile design maintained natural beauty of the park

  • Durability – built to handle continuous debris diversion in freshwater environments

  • Ease of Deployment – tailored boom fit seamlessly across the canal entrance

Project Highlights

  1. Maintenance Reduction
Prior to installation, crews frequently cleaned the pond. With the boom in place, debris diversion drastically reduced required labor.

  2. Community-Friendly Design
The low-visibility boom provided effective protection without creating a harsh industrial look in a public space.

  3. Enhanced Guest & Resident Experience
The pond remained a clean, enjoyable focal point for the town square, supporting the city’s goals of beautification and recreation.

Outcome

The installation of the PermBoom successfully diverted debris from entering the pond, saving the municipality significant time and resources on cleanout while maintaining the park’s visual appeal.

This project highlights GEI Works’ ability to deliver municipal-scale environmental solutions that combine functionality with aesthetics—protecting waterways without compromising community spaces.
